97th Infantry, Second State Color. Organized during the late summer of 1861, the regiment was from Chester and Delaware counties. The 97th received their second state color on September 1, 1864 after the first one was taken home due to its tattered condition. The regiment was mustered out of service on August 28, 1865.

97th Infantry, First State Color. Organized during the late summer of 1861, the regiment was composed of men from Chester and Delaware counties. The 97th received their first state color on November 4, 1861 from Governor Curtin. Sergeant John D. Beaver was the regiment's original color-bearer. The tattered flag was retired from service after August 1864 when it was taken home with a detachment to recruit. The regiment was mustered out of service on August 28, 1865.
